Projects and Partnerships

For Nukunu people, the protection and restoration of land and water underpins all economic opportunities taking place on their Country.

NWTAC projects and partnerships are guided by the Nukunu Healthy Country Plan, written with the support of the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board. The plan shares how Nukunu people want their Country to be managed and how it can be maintained or returned to good health.

Notable NWTAC projects and partnerships include:

  • Nukunu language revitalisation in partnership with the Mobile Language Team of Adelaide University
  • restoration of a cultural site at Melrose
  • cultural burning in partnership with Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation and Firesticks Alliance
  • Nukunu Kids Camps aimed at sharing culture and developing language
  • Quorn native garden (‘Thutha Patch’) - a seed bank for landscape restoration around the region in partnership with Quorn Community Landcare Group,Flinders Ranges Council and Seeding Natives
  • revitalisation of Nukunu wood carving (Yurtu) with Adnyamathanha men
  • documentation of Nukunu stories in partnership with Port Pirie Council
  • cultural mapping in partnership with the University of South Australia.
